KIMBALL COMPANY HISTORY : |
The Kimball Piano Company was a Chicago institution for almost 140 years.
At times they built some very nice pianos, and at other times, well, not
so nice pianos. But then again, most piano manufacturers are guilty of
that. Kimball was simply fortunate to have more years to do it than most.
Kimball was a very popular, affordable piano across the United States
until Kawai and Yamaha pianos began to wash ashore and show American piano
manufacturers a thing or two that Kimball (and many others) could never
answer. Kimball was eventually purchased by a Fortune 500 furniture company
who decided that Kimball's manufacturing facility would be better used
to make furniture instead of pianos. It was in 1996 that anyone last heard
Bob Barker say "A NEW KIMBALL PIANO!" |
