KOHLER
& CAMPBELL COMPANY HISTORY : |
Kohler & Campbell was founded in 1896 and within a short period of
time, they were a world leader in pianos, gobbling up company after company
-- even cornering the market on player piano components during the height
of player piano popularity in the early 1900's. The company and its umbrella
of brand names moved from NY to Granite Falls, NC, where it eventually
died a quiet death in 1985. At times Kohlers were very well made; other
times not so well made, so we're pretty picky about our Kohlers.
Around
1990, the Kohler & Campbell name was bought by Samick in Korea and
since then it has been used on Samick pianos. Cordogan’s carried
the line in the early nineties. Many models were very unique in their
cabinet designs. We know this because Samick & Cordogan’s
designed specific case styles together, indicative by model numbers
that contained Diane & John Cordogan’s initials (the DC43
console and the JC46 studio). Today, Kohler & Campbell is still
owned by Samick but the majority of these (now) economical pianos are
being made in Indonesia. |
