Kawai 801T Satin Walnut Studio

ABOUT THIS KAWAI PIANO:

This one sort of brings a tear to our eye.  Cordogan's was the one of the first Kawai dealers in the U.S. back in the early 1960's and our whole family grew up on selling Kawai pianos.  We witnessed the evolution of Kawai's consoles being made in Japan...then North America...and now Indonesia.  We've seen them go from ornate to plain...hardwood to particle board...basically better to worse.  This is not an indictment of Kawai. It's the reality of what manufacturers had to do to stay competitive and survive in the face of cheaper competition.  This piano was indeed made in Japan and employed all hardwood in the construction.  It was their top-of-the-line console at a time when it was still competitive to build such a piano.  The market these days simply doesn't support building this level of quality so the only way to get it is to find a great used piano like this one.  We sold this very piano originally too so we know its history.  The 800 series Kawai was and still is the best console Kawai ever made.  It sounds better and plays better than anything made today.  And if you happen to want a walnut finish, then you're in luck because Kawai doesn't make a walnut console anymore.  :)

COMPANY
HISTORY :
As legend has it, a young Koichi Kawai was approached by Mr. Yamaha (yes, there once was one!), who was impressed with the bicycle that the youngster built and hired him to design pianos. In 1927, the piano innovator formed his own company. In the early sixties, Kawai began exporting to the United States and Cordogan's immediately began carrying the line. Kawai is a very popular brand that is well made, highly reputable and remains one of the most recommended brands by tuners, teachers and performers. It is also one of the most highly sought brands on the resale market. As with any brand, finding one from a reputable dealer that is in the size, finish, style and in the condition you may be seeking can be quite a challenge.
